CHP program aids teen driver safety |
The California Highway Patrol’s office in San Andreas next month will offer free driving classes for new teen drivers.
The effort is in conjunction with the CHP-developed program Start Smart, which aims to help reduce the death rate among behind-the-wheel teens. “Start Smart is aimed at helping newly licensed and future licensed drivers understand the critical responsibilities of driving and to understand that accidents do happen, but collisions are 100 percent preventable,” stated CHP in an announcement released Wednesday. Start Smart classes provide teens and their parents or guardians with an interactive driving awareness class that illustrates the consequences of making bad decisions while operating a vehicle, according to CHP. Anyone wishing to participate in a class must first RSVP by phone or in-person at the San Andreas CHP Office, 749 Mountain Ranch Road. CHP is asking those interested to call 754-3541 for more information or to make a reservation for a class. The dates and locations for the free teen driving classes are: • Feb. 7: Copperopolis Fire Protection District. • Feb. 8: Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital. • Feb. 13: Murphys Fire Protection District. • Mar. 5: Jenny Lind Fire Protection District. All classes are from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. |
