Julie McManus, finance director of Calaveras County Water District, has been named acting interim general manager, in the absence of Larry Diamond.
Diamond, who has been CCWD's in-terim general manager since Jan. 15, checked into Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital Saturday night with an irregular heartbeat, according to Mona Walker, CCWD's administrative technician.
She said Diamond was transferred to Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento Monday af-ternoon.
Walker told the CCWD board of directors Wednesday that Diamond told her Saturday he was placing McManus in the position of acting interim general manager.
"Our general counsel (attorney Alan Turner) said he has the authority to (make that appointment,)" Walker said. "He said it was a perfectly appropriate response."
The board voted 4-1 to confirm Diamond's appointment of McManus as acting interim general manager, the appointment to last until Diamond's return. Director Don Deem cast the dissenting vote.
Diamond's wife, Donna, said late Wednesday afternoon that doctors "found a blockage in one of his arteries and did an angioplasty."
He is reportedly doing well.
Diamond was released from Mercy General Hospital Tuesday evening and returned to his home in Murphys Wednesday.
Donna Diamond said her husband hoped to be up and around in a week or so.
McManus, who has been with CCWD since 1997, said she doesn't expect to be in the position for more than than a couple of weeks.
"I'm filling in to keep the workload flowing," she said.
Linda Bonnell, human resources officer for CCWD, said Diamond will not be able to return to work until he receives a medical release from his physician. She said Diamond may return in a week.
McManus has acted in an interim general manager capacity in the past, Bonnell said.
