CCWD rate hikes funding projects

The Calaveras County Water District is moving forward with construction projects funded by last year’s controversial sewer and water rate hikes.

A couple key projects are finished or nearly complete, including upgrading two lift stations in Copperopolis that pump sewage from homes to a wastewater treatment plant. In addition, design work is almost done on the first phase of replacing a water transmission line in the Arnold area.

Jeff Meyer, director of administrative services for CCWD, said the district “has been planning and programming the cash flow carefully.”

“Getting three years of design work started during the first year is key to a successful capital repair and renovation program,” he said.

Meyer said documents are being prepared on a seven-year loan intended to “jump start” water and sewer projects. The district plans to borrow $4 million for water projects and $2.3 million for wastewater projects.
