Businesses are looking for leaders

By SCOTT PESZNECKER

Unlike most members of the Angels Camp Business Association, Claudia Raznikov doesn't own a business.

Despite that, she has been president of the association for two years.

The association is looking for new officers and board members to lead. And, said Raznikov, said she's proof that anyone can apply.

"I wanted to give something back to the community, and this was a way of doing that for me," Raznikov, whose term as president is over at the end of this year.

With about 60 member businesses and a handful of "independents" — people such as Raznikov who don't own businesses — the Angels Camp Business Association's goals are to market area businesses and to improve the community.

There are nine spots open on the roster. Five are for board members. The association is also seeking a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.

The president and vice president run the group's meetings, which are held the first Monday of each month. The secretary records meeting minutes and the treasurer keeps track of membership dues — which are $50 annually — as well as donations, funds raised and expenditures.

Board members make the association's final decisions, such as what to buy or what projects to perform.

"We look for adults who want to contribute to the community," said Donna Stevenson, the association member in charge of nominations.

Each job also has its own special duties. For example, Secretary Janet Munn, an administrative assistant at Goldrush World Access, is in charge of the annual Holiday Parade in December.

Applicants for the jobs must be nominated, though people are allowed to nominate themselves. Next month, all association members will vote by mail for new board members and officers. Winners will be announced in December.

Applications to join the association are on its Web site at www.angelscamp.net.
