Calaveras High School canceled afternoon programs today after a truck carrying bleach overturned nearby.
The truck, carrying sodium hypochlorite, used as a disinfectant, overturned at 8:30 a.m. at the Calaveras Sanitary District, adjacent to the high school.
The scene was to be cleared at 3:50 p.m.
As a result, local and state fire officials urged the Calaveras Unified School District to cancel all afternoon practices, performances and competitions scheduled at the Calaveras High.
Calaveras High, Gold Strike High and San Andreas Elementary schools will be cleared of all students and personnel after 3:50 p.m.
No students or staff were considered to be in danger.
Local fire and county hazmat personnel were assisting with the clean up, said Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Hewitt.
