Authorities ID missing swimmer; search wanes

The identity of an Air Force serviceman who drowned Sunday at Pinecrest has been identified.

Jessica Clark, chief of media relations at Travis Air Force Base, identified the victim as Airman 1st Class Ronnie James Hayden, 27, of Kentucky. Hayden was stationed at Travis.

Hayden never resurfaced after he dove into a water inlet at Cleo’s Bath about 2:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Scott Johnson, of Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.

Johnson said the group of about 10 friends, none local, were with Hayden and reported him missing to the Sheriff’s Office.

As of Wednesday night, Hayden’s body had not been recovered, Johnson said.
