Art in Action: School demonstrations |
Peter Bartczak, an airbrush artist who created a mural for the Murphys Grille, explained to a group of kindergartners that he didn’t always think he was good at art. “I started drawing when I was about your age,” Bartczak said. He explained that his art teacher in high school helped him see the value in his work and changed his life.
“The patience required for my paintings, I don’t have for anything else,” Bartczak said He then used an airbrush to paint a face on an easel, prompting cheers from the students. Susan King, a retired elementary school teacher who organized Art in Action this year, said this is the event’s first time at Michelson. It’s been happening for about 10 years at Hazel Fischer Elementary, located in Arnold. King said that, next year, she’ll plan Art in Action to include performing as well as visual artists. Participating artists at Michelson Elementary were Bartczak, Peggy Huth, Terese May, Joani Taylor, Steve May, Eve Lee, Jeff Garrison and Sandra Maurer. |
