Angels to interview council applicants

The Angels Camp City Council on Tuesday will interview three applicants for its fifth and final seat, after swearing in Elaine Morris for a second term and Wes Kulm to his first.

Both council members filed and were declared elected when they were the only two to do so prior to the deadline for last fall’s vote, despite a total of three vacancies on the council. Council members Scott Behiel and Roger Neuman each decided not to run for a full four-year term after being appointed to fill mid-term vacancies.

The three applicants to be interviewed Tuesday are Walter Gloskowski, Andrew Granucci and Lambert “Bert” Sobon.

Gloskowski is a civil engineer, business owner and licensed contractor who has lived in the city for about two years and previously had a cabin in the Arnold area for about three decades. He applied for a Planning Commission seat in April 2011 but the position went to John Broeder, who remains on the panel.

Granucci is a Bret Harte High School senior due to graduate this spring, who has wrestled and played football for the Bullfrogs and has developed an interest in local, state and national politics.

Sobon previously sought appointment as a city official, seeking a 2008 Planning Commission vacancy that eventually went to Joe Darby, who later moved out of the city. Sobon has been a full-time city resident since 2000 and was recognized as a citizen panel contributor to the city’s general plan land use document update adopted in February 2009.

The council is also slated to choose a mayor and vice mayor.

The positions are now held respectively by Morris and Jack Lynch, who has previously been mayor. An oath of office is to be given to Darien Wilson, the newest officer to join the Angels Camp Police Department.

PUBLIC MEETING: Angels Camp City Council, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Joe Carley Memorial Firehouse, 1404 Vallecito Road.
