Angels may thaw city pay freeze

A thaw in the nearly two-year-old pay freeze for city employees is on the agenda Tuesday for the Angels Camp City Council.

The move would be retroactive to the beginning of the fiscal year on July 1 and prevented step increases and raises given for promotions. The estimated cost for the year is $40,010, of which just $7,475 is charged to the city’s general fund and the remainder impacts water and sewer enterprise accounts.

The city experienced a modest uptick in sales and lodging tax revenues last year, providing a sunnier budget outlook this year than in almost half a decade.

In other business, the council will consider a request from the Central Sierra Economic Development District for an additional $925.25 in reimbursements to the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority for completing overdue financial reports from 2009 and 2010 as well as a match for a federal grant received by the district to complete an economic strategy document. Of the amount, $635.88 is to be derived from water and sewer funds because the city has applied to get funding for infrastructure projects through the CSEDD.

PUBLIC MEETING: Angels Camp City Council, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Joe Carley Memorial Firehouse, 1404 Vallecito Road, Angels Camp.
