Sonora Regional Medical Center will expand its range of services in Calaveras County to include a Prompt Care facility, which is expected to open this fall.
The clinic will provide drop-in family practice services and possibly some specialty services. It will be located at 23 N. Main St. at the corner of Highway 4 in Angels Camp.
“It’s for immediate care, but not emergency room level care,” Witzlsteiner said. “If you have chest pains, this is not the place to go.”
According to Witzlsteiner, SRMC and its parent company Adventist Health, have been looking into expanding services in Calaveras County for several years.
She said the company jumped on the opportunity when the building opened up.
The goal is to be closer to the growing consumer base in Calaveras County, Witzlsteiner said.
“With the growth in Copperopolis, it’s nice to be more centrally located between Copperopolis and the main corridor,” Witzlsteiner said.
The expansion will create an estimated 11 full-time jobs for nurses, laboratory workers, radiology workers, office employees and physicians.
There is also discussion of stationing a cardiologist at the facility a few days a week.
“It’s a new market, it’s hard to know exactly what we need,” Witzlsteiner said. “I think we’re looking at providing some specialty services, but we have yet to tie all that down.”
