Kamps Propane adding fuel storage and office space

The Kamps Propane operation in the Mother Lode is expanding.
For about a quarter-century, the Manteca-based company has served customers in Tuolumne, Calaveras and Mariposa counties from its Jamestown location on Highway 108.

However, Kamps will be moving its offices this fall to East Sonora, allowing more space for employees and fuel storage. The expansion, including construction of a new building, will cost about $2.2 million.
A 5,200-square-foot office space is tentatively scheduled to open Oct. 1, said Glenn Reibin, manager of the Jamestown office. The new building, located at 18877 Microtronics Way, will hold 12 employees, “leaving room for expansion,” Reibin said.
The company “has been growing in leaps and bounds customers-wise,” he said.
That growth in patrons may lead to future jobs being created within the company, Reibin said, and definitely called for an expansion of the propane provider’s fuel storage space.
As a result, three newly purchased and refurbished 30,000-gallon tanks are being installed at the new site, tripling the previous amount of propane the company could store in Jamestown.
“As we keep growing, you end up with more people, more delivery trucks,” Reibin said. “The more gallons we’re selling, you need to have that storage.”
M.P. Allen General Contractors, of Rancho Cordova, is leading the project with Kamps’ own engineers responsible for work on the tanks, pumps and plumbing, he said. The company broke ground on the project about two years ago.
Company Vice President Terry Ayres, of Sonora, said the project is vital to keeping up with growing demand.
“We’re making sure there’s no supply issues and helping to keep our costs down,” Ayres said.
