Fundraiser set at Elks Lodge to benefit agriculture department

A New York steak fundraiser dinner will be held to benefit the Sonora High School Agriculture Department on Feb. 25 at the Elks Lodge.
The social hour begins at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m., said Stan Kellogg, Sonora High ag teacher and FFA advisor.
Dinner will be New York steak, baked potato, green beans, salad and garlic bread, which costs $25 each.
There will be a wagon-wheel bench door prize and many raffle items.
Students from the ROP ag mechanics class — junior Bobby Lertora, 17, of Sonora, and junior Sam Luce, 18, of Sonora — were busy at work last week building the wagon-wheel bench.
The dinner celebrates the end of National FFA week, Lertora said.
FFA week is Feb. 19 to 26, said Sonora FFA chapter secretary, senior Grant Kutch, 18, of Jamestown.
During the week, the FFA will host ag-trivia games at school for other students during lunch, Kutch said.
The wagon wheels took Lertora and Luce two to three days to make They said the bench would take another several days to complete.
“The wheels are the hardest part, because of all the measurements,” Lertora said.
FFA chapters across the nation are doing ag-related activities to promote FFA, Kutch said.
