Fourth annual Farm and Ranch Tour set for July 30

Everything from cattle to bonsai trees will be featured during the fourth annual Farms of Tuolumne County Farm and Ranch Tour on Saturday, July 30.
Event organizers invite visitors to spend the day going from one venue to the next at their leisure between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the self-guided tour.
Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 on the day of the event. Those 18 and younger are admitted for free. Those attending are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring a cooler for perishable purchases.     The event will have on-site demonstrations as well as tours, and cameras are encouraged.
Places that have agreed to be on the tour this year:
    • Hurst Ranch is a family farm and ranch supply business, where guided wagon tours will be offered through the olive grove, vineyard, beef pasture and gold camp on Woods Creek. A train ride will be offered, and people are welcome to bring along a picnic lunch to eat on the lawn by the catfish pond.
Samples of beef, beer bread and, if they are ripe, a blackberry or two to pick will be available.
    • ReHorse Rescue Ranch will offer “meet and greet” sessions with rescued horses and information about how the nonprofit organization rescues and rehabilitates abandoned, neglected, abused and unwanted horses. Cold drinks will be for sale.
    • Al’s Bonsai will have miniature trees for viewing and purchase. He has been providing artistic bonsai since 1985 and has many varieties, from small starters to stately mature trees. Demonstrations and tours will be held throughout the day,
•Indigeny Reserve will teach visitors about organic apple farming, hard-cider brewing, fermentation and pasteurization. There will be tours of the cider works and distillery and tastings of hard cider and brandy. Visitors can also visit the gift shop, stroll through the orchards, bring along a picnic, or just relax or play on the lawns. Other members of Farms of Tuolumne County will have products there for sale, along with samples, demonstrations and displays.
•Diestel Family Turkey Ranch has been growing and selling turkeys on the family ranch since 1949. They will showcase their new pastured line, featuring a rotational grazing of turkeys, chickens, pigs and goats. There will be discussions about how natural cycles and rotational grazing enhance soil fertility. The ranch sales room will be open.
