TCEDA named

    The Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority was referred to in the “Growing Thriving Rural Economic Development Corporations” guide book created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development and the California Association of Local Economic Development.
    The guide book was designed to be a roadmap to success for economic development agencies in small communities throughout California.
    TCED executive director Larry Cope, is quoted multiple times in the guide book and the entire TCEDA strategic plan is printed toward the end of the book.

Beekeepers class

    The Sierra Foothill Beekeepers Association will have an intermediate beekeeping class from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 4 at the Tuolumne County Fire and Ambulance Administration Center, 18450 Striker Court, Sonora.
    The class is designed for beekeepers who understand the basic process of beekeeping and want to explore the process in more detail. Current or past beekeeping experience is required and completion of the beginning beekeeping class is recommended.
    The class will be taught by Serge Labesque, a longtime beekeeper who has apiaries in the Sonoma Foothills and teaches beekeeping at Santa Rosa Junior College. He uses no chemicals to manage his colonies.
    The cost is $35 per person.

Business class is available in June

    The Business Alliance of Tuolumne County will have a MailChimp: E-mail Marketing Class from 9 a.m. to noon June 13 at the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority’s Small Business Center, 99 N. Washington St., Sonora.
    The class costs $20 and is limited to 10 participants.

Energy-efficient grants available to homeowners 

    Homeowners in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties can apply for grants and low interest rate financing to make energy efficient improvements to their home as part of the CHF Residential Energy Retrofit.
    These energy efficient improvements like home caulking and sealing, insulation improvement and the installation of new windows, water heaters, and heating and air conditioning systems.
    The program provides qualified homeowners with a 3 percent fixed rate 15 year loan and a grant of up to $1,250 per home to be put toward the improvement costs, as well as a grant to cover the before and after inspections of the home.
    To qualify homeowners must be current on their mortgage and property taxes and have a current source of income within the program limits.
    The program is funded through a $16.5 million grant awarded to CHF by the California Energy Commission State Energy Program as part of the federal stimulus American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
