Business notes for May 18, 2011

The 140 Characters Conference — Central Sierra will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 24 at  Black Oak Elementary School, 18995 Twain Harte Drive, Twain Harte.
The cost is $89 per ticket, and for nonprofit organizations the cost is $20 per ticket and a $1.49 processing fee.
The conference explores the effects of social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and others) and the emerging real-time Internet on individuals, organizations and regions. The goal is to bring together a diverse group of people to share their perspectives, experiences and stories about how the real-time Internet is affecting their industry sectors and the people inside them.
Presentations are limited to 10-20 minutes each, with no PowerPoint presentations, to permit as many people as possible to share their stories. Presenters are selected to stimulate discussion across a wide range of sectors including business, agriculture, government, tourism, education, entertainment, nonprofit and more.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency Digital Literacy Program.
