New manager

    New Melones Lake Marina has named Blaine “Smokey” Riggert its new general manager.
    He will oversee all of the marina operations at New Melones Lake.
    Riggert brings more than 20 years of management experience to the marina. He has a background in manufacturing and distribution, and has extensive experience in customer service and crew supervision. Riggert is a longtime boater and water sport enthusiast.
    New Melones Lake is a full-service marina featuring upscale houseboat, small boat and personal watercraft rentals, with an extensive private moorage.
    The fuel dock, floating marina store and marine service shop are open year-round.

Guest speaker

    The Purpose to Profits Telesummit will feature Lisa Hines, Sonora entrepreneur and founder of Balance and Success Coaching, at 3 p.m. June 16.
    She has been chosen as one of 36 guest speakers to address an international audience of entrepreneurs who want to make a big difference in the world.
    She will give a presentation entitled “Rocking the New Paradigm: how eco-spirituality prepares your business for future success.” During her presentation she will discuss how entrepreneurs and small businesses can position themselves above the competitors, the five marketing tips to leverage eco-spirituality in your business and attract new customers, and the four tools for preparing your business for the world-wide changes ahead.

    The Northeastern California Small Business Development Center will have a workshop on Starting a Small Business from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tracy District Chamber of Commerce, 223 E. 10th St., Tracy; and from noon to 1 p.m. June 16 at the Lodi District Chamber of Commerce, 35 S. School St., Lodi.
    The workshop will cover general start-up and legal requirements, sources of financing and sources of free assistance with business planning and operations.
    All participants will receive a Resource Guide to Starting and Operating a Small Business CD.
    The workshop is $15 per person.

Calaveras Grown

    Calaveras Grown will sponsor a free lunch featuring Nancyjo Riekse, project manager of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Business Enterprise Grant project “Next Steps,” the implementation of small niche meat harvesting and cut-and-wrap facilities in California.
    The lunch is an opportunity for livestock producers and others who are interested in improving the regional economy to see what work is currently being done toward value-added livestock processing in the region. Lunch is noon to 3:30 p.m. June 13, at the Calaveras County Library, 1299 Gold Hunter Road, San Andreas.


New business

     Sky’s Closet, which sells used gently use children's items, opened June 1 in East Sonora.
    The business, 15354 Tuolumne Road, just above The Junction, is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
    The store sells a variety of children's items, including clothes, toys and furniture.
    It is owned and operated by husband and wife Rusty and Angela Holt, of Sonora. 
    The shop is named for their daughter, Skylar.
