Business notes for Jan. 25, 2012

Merger

Don Fry Realty in Arnold announced a merger with Century 21, Sierra Properties, also of Arnold.
After 32 years, Don and Beverly Fry closed their realty office and moved into the Arnold office of Century 21 at 2075 Highway 4, across from the Meadowmont Shopping Center.
The Frys continue to both list and sell real estate and can be reached at 795-4441.
They plan to sell their former building at 1027 Highway 4, near the Bank of America Arnold branch.

Tax program

The AARP Tax Aide Program will be offering free federal and state tax return assistance to middle and lower income individuals every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Feb. 7 through April 10 at the Tuolumne County Senior Center, 540 Greenley Road, Sonora.
Assistance will be offered by certified counselors, with special attention being given to those age 60 and older.
Those requiring assistance should bring a copy of their previous year’s tax return, all 2011 W-2 and 1099 forms, any information sent by the IRS, and any documentation that may help reduce taxes.
Free electronic filing is also available, which, along with direct deposit, will allow you to receive your refund in about a week.
This is a walk in site, so no appointment is necessary.
    For more information, call 533-2622.

SMUG

Macworld — iWorld, the nation’s premier event focused solely on the Apple products platform, will be highlighted when the Sierra Macintosh User Group meets next in Arnold.
SMUG moves to its winter home and schedule, with a 2 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the community room of the Murphys Library, 480 Park Lane, adjacent to Murphys Park.
Throughout the rest of the year, SMUG holds its monthly evening meetings at the Arnold firehouse.
There will be no January meeting.
This year’s Macworld — iWorld will be held Jan. 26 through 28 in San Francisco’s Moscone Center. Mac users and buyers, top media outlets and industry experts go to the event annually to meet face-to-face, see new products, experience an acclaimed technical training and educational program and participate in cultural and social opportunities that set the agenda for the Apple products industry.
SMUG meetings are open to everyone and there is no charge to attend.
SMUG is a nonprofit organization run completely by volunteers. Annual dues are $15. For more information, visit the SMUG website at www.SierraMacintoshUsersGroup.org or call 795-3798 or 728-9012.
