The Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce will announce the winners of its Best of Tuolumne County Awards at its annual Installation/Honors Banquet on Nov. 18 at the Sonora Elks Lodge, 100 Elk Drive, Sonora.
The awards recognize community members for their achievements and contributions to Tuolumne County in four categories, Entrepreneur of the Year, Excellence in Government, Citizen of the Year, and Teacher of the Year.
The Entrepreneur of the Year award is given to a community member who has demonstrated leadership in their Tuolumne County business. They should demonstrate a concern for their employees, the community and its citizens, staying power, excellent customer service, a growth in number of employees and an increase in sales. Last year’s winner was Bill and Melinda McDonald.
The Excellence in Government award is for a community member who has demonstrated excellence in their public sector position, has a good working relationship with member of the business community, shown honesty and integrity and has managed public money well. Last year’s winner was Pete Kampa.
The Citizen of the Year award is given to a community member who is involved in voluntary services that have improved the lives of other community members. They must have demonstrated outstanding leadership and community service skills. The winner must have lived in Tuolumne County for at least two years. Last year’s winner was Jamie Smith. Teacher of the Year award will be presented to a Tuolumne County teacher who has made a difference in any grade level, including junior college. The winner must have held their position for at least 12 months and live in the county. Last year’s winner was Kim Orteiza.
The deadline to submit nominees has been extended to Oct. 11.
