County health services gets new supervisor

Colleen Tracy is the new head of the Calaveras County Health Services Agency.

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Tracy, former director of the Public Health Department, to the post vacated by Jeanne Boyce in October.

Boyce left the position to become the county’s chief administrative officer.

To Supervisor Gary Tofanelli, that might be considered a disincentive.

“Have you thought about this? You saw what happened to our previous health director.” he joked.

“Yes, and I’m taking that as a positive thing,” replied a smiling Tracy.

Tracy got her start in Public Health in 1982. She moved to Rancho Calaveras while working in San Joaquin County, then applied for the Public Health director position when it opened up.

“I find the challenges of working in a small county very different,” she said. “It’s much more difficult with a small budget.”

Supervisor Steve Wilensky heaped praise on Tracy.

“Often, when you have a person of Jeanne’s caliber leave a department, you leave a gaping hole,” he said. “This is a seamless transfer.”
