Anthony August Dutil
Dec. 8, 1920 — Jan. 25, 2010
  
    Lifelong Calaveras County resident Anthony August Dutil died Monday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 89.
    Born and raised in Copperopolis, he had lived the rest of his life in Angels Camp. A lifelong Calaveras County cattle rancher, he also worked as a diesel mechanic for 40 years.
    He married his lifelong partner, Joan, on Feb. 28, 1954.
    Mr. Dutil is survived by his son, Thomas Dutil of Angels Camp; grandchildren, Michael Dutil of Angels Camp, and Melissa Dutil of Jordan Valley, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Joan Dutil; his parents; and a brother and sister.
    A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Angels Memorial Chapel.

Elizabeth Z. Leslie
Jan. 2, 1930 — Jan. 23, 2010

    Greeley Hill resident Elizabeth Z. Leslie died Saturday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. She was 80.
    She was born Elizabeth Zelma Hagen in Wickenburg, Ariz. In 1947, she married Charles Lee Leslie, also of Arizona, and they raised six children.   
    She lived on various ranches in Arizona, California and Nevada. She enjoyed cooking and cooked for the cowboys at a few of the ranches, helped her husband build fences, sometimes living in a tent while doing so, and ran to town for supplies over miles of dirt road.
    For much of the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s, she and her husband lived in Mariposa and Tuolumne counties. She worked at a home for disabled children in Greeley Hill and at the Sierra Hospital and Tuolumne General Hospital in Sonora as a dietician and cook in the kitchen.
    She spent much of the 1980s in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and in the 1990s she moved to Lexington, Okla., where she lived until returning to Greeley Hill a year ago.
    Her family said she lived a cowpunchers life, enjoying the outdoors and the many ranches where she was born, raised, and worked. She also enjoyed watching the rodeo both in person and on television and never missed watching the World Series.
    Her hobbies included spending time with her many grandchildren and great- grandchildren, crocheting, enjoying the outdoors, especially her love of hummingbirds, and her little dog.
    She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Carol Leslie of Sonora; daughters, Linda Amos of Greeley Hill, Bessie Maxwell of Show Low, Ariz., Barbara Leslie of Lubbock, Texas, and Jackie Kent of Greeley Hill; grandchildren, Preston Leslie and Laura Leslie of Sonora, Jess Leslie, Joy La Rae, Linda Kent, Bernie Wackerman, and Lacey Ericsson of Arizona, Leslie Kent, Matt Amos, Clay Amos, and Mark Amos of Groveland, Selby Stephens of New Mexico, Shank Stephens of Oklahoma, Desiree Spence of Lubbock, John Kent of Greeley Hill, Donnie Wackerman of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law of Independence.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Leslie; her son, Jess Leslie; her parents, Ben and Dorothy Hagen; and her siblings, Jim, Tom, Honey, and Dorothy Hagen.
    Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Terzich and Wilson.

Lillian Lynch
Nov. 26, 1927 — Jan. 22, 2010

    Sonora resident Lillian Lynch died Friday at a Sonora care home. She was 82.
    Born in San Francisco, she had lived in Sonora for nine years. She was a homemaker for 60 years.
    She is survived by her sons, Rick Lynch of Sonora, David Lynch of Walnut Creek, and Kevin Lynch of Paradise; daughters, Irene Lynch of Reno, and Kelli Lynch of Martinez; a brother, Arthur Johnson of Sacramento; a sister, Lucille Schmeider of San Mateo; and two grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Lynch, in 1987.
    No services are scheduled.

Jesse ‘Vernon’ Stump
May 30, 1930 — Jan. 22, 2010

    Tuolumne resident Jesse “Vernon” Stump died Friday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 79.
    Born in Grants Pass, Ore., he had lived in Tuolumne for 32 years. A member of Christian Heights Assembly of God, he worked as an insurance agent for 20 years. His family said that he enjoyed traveling and people.
    Mr. Stump is survived by his wife, Barbara Stump of Tuolumne; sons, Daniel Stump of Barcelona, Spain, Donald Stump of Topeka, Kan., and David Stump of Tuolumne; daughters, Donna Kazas of Modesto, and Della Foré of Auburn; a sister, Louise Hart of Ickesburg, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
    A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Heights Assembly of God.

Bessie Lou Wilson
July 19, 1921 — Jan. 24, 2010

    Murphys resident Bessie Lou Wilson died Sunday at a Sonora care home. She was 88.
    Born in Oklahoma, she had lived in Encinitas, San Diego County, for 35 years. Then she lived in Murphys for the past 20 years. A homemaker, she was also a member of the Independence Hall Quilters in White Pines.
    Her family said she was a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II, assembling aircraft for the war effort. She worked at Tulsa, Okla., and Del Mar, San Diego County. Her memoirs from the war are published at the Redwood City Memorial Museum in Redwood City.
    She is survived by her daughter, Donna Howard of Murphys; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy R. Wilson, in 1993; and her son, Ronald Wilson in 2005.
    A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys.
