Nathan Longeway Barbour
June 18, 1938 — Nov. 30, 2009
  
    Former Tuolumne County resident Nathan Longeway Barbour died Dec. 7 at the Kalispell Regional Hospital in Kalispell, Mont. He was 71.
    Born in Stockton, he lived in the Lockeford and Clements areas until about 30 years ago. That’s when he moved to Tuolumne County, where he was a descendant of two pioneer families, the Longeways and the Phillipsons.
    While in Tuolumne County, he worked for PG&E and as a bus driver, custodian and cafeteria worker at Belleview School. He was also an umpire at Standard Park.
    He moved to Big Fork, Mont., about eight years ago.
    Mr. Barbour was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Nathan P. Barbour III and Clairbel (Longeway) Barbour; a sister, Tomme Jo Whitten; a granddaughter, Brooke Supplee Barbour; and a great-granddaughter, Miley LaRae Palares.
    He is survived by two daughters, Shelley Ann Buck, of Lodi, and Lynne E. McDonald and her husband, Milo, of Federal Way, Wash.; one son, Nathan C. Barbour and his wife, Rita, of Columbia Falls, Mont.; seven grandchildren, Savannah Barbour, Lindsey Hepburn, Nathan Gabriel Barbour VI, Jamie Lynne Holder, Austin McDonald, Dillon Buck and Ashley Buck; and numerous other relatives, including Tuolumne County cousins, Nancy Dutra and Jim Longeway, and their families.
    A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harmony Grove Cemetery in Lockeford with a reception to follow at the Harmony Grove Cemetery Chapel.

Kenith David Varble
June 14, 1944 — Dec. 5, 2009

    Kenith David Varble died Dec. 5 at his Copperopolis home. He was 65.
    Mr. Varble was born in Oakland and moved to Hayward in 1952, where he lived until 1973. He then relocated to the Central Valley. For the last seven years, he lived in Copperopolis.
    He worked as a forklift operator for 18 years at United Can. In his spare time, he enjoyed writing, reading, playing cards and off-roading in his 1976 Jeep.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Kenith Varble Sr., brother, Dennis Varble; wife, Melodi Varble; and best friend, Gary Sullen.
    He is survived by his sons, Dylan Varble and his wife, Cyrena, of Copperopolis, and James Varble, of Turlock; daughter, Kimberly Rae, of southern California; stepdaughter, Erika Abarca, of Kansas; sister, Vana Chavez, of Hayward; brother, Vaughn Varble, of Hayward; niece, Lisa Chavez, of New York; nephew, Jory Chavez, of Hayward; mother, Gladys Varble, of Hayward; and special friends, Lance and Janeen Lindsey, of Riverbank.
    A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Angels Memorial Chapel, 1071 S. Main St., Angels Camp.
    Contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
