Robert F. Bernhard Nov. 15, 1930 — Nov. 21, 2009 Retired food industry executive Robert F. Bernhard, of Arnold, died Nov. 21 at a Modesto hospital of complications from a Nov. 17 car accident. He was 79. A native of San Francisco, Mr. Bernhard graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, N.M., and from San Jose State University, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He retired as a supplier to the retail food industry. Prior to that, he spent more than 40 years as vice president of Pioneer Soap Co. in San Francisco. He was also director of distribution of Mothers Cake and Cookie Co. in Oakland and Pioneer Associates in Arnold. He was active in the California Grocers Association and the Western Association of Food Chains. He was also a 50-year member of the Illuminators Inc. and was a “Dimmed Headlite” of the Illuminators. He was a 50-year member of the Olympic Club of San Francisco, longtime member of the Sequoia Woods Country Club, past Big Sir of Sons in Retirement and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Arnold. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the Second Infantry Division as an artillery officer. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star and Commendation Medal. Mr. Bernhard was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Joan Hills Bernhard. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Jean “Terry” and Mark Scheig, of San Jose; a son, H. Mark Bernhard, of Larkspur; granddaughters, Morgan, Taylor and Brooke Scheig, all of San Jose; former wife of 21 years, Rogene F. Bernhard, of Larkspur; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Angels Memorial Chapel followed by a celebration of life at his home in Arnold. Charles ‘Chuck’ Davis June 10, 1921 — Nov. 19, 2009 Longtime Sonora resident Charles “Chuck” Davis died Nov. 19 at his home. He was 88. Mr. Davis was born in Sharpsville, Pa., and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the AARP, Loyal Order of Moose, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Davis enjoyed model trains, baseball, traveling, golf and spending time with his dog, Bonnie. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Davis, in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Geneva Davis, of Sonora; sons, Charles Davis, of Hackettstown, N.J., James Cox, of Manteca, Larry Cox, of Oakdale, Michael Stanfield, of Jamestown, and Derek Stanfield, of Anaheim; daughters Donna Coe, of Hayward, Leslie Bucey, of Medford, Ore., and Sherrie Maes, of Jamestown; sisters Virginia Brusseau, of Detroit, Mich., Doris Toonder, of Florida, and Patricia Carlson, of Detroit; and 17 grandchildren. Tamara Ann Dragomanovich Dec. 7, 1961 — Nov. 23, 2009 Tamara Ann Dragomanovich died Nov. 23 at her Angels Camp home after a long battle with cancer. She was 47. She was born and raised in Angels Camp. Her family said her prime interests were family, friends and catering, and she was especially known for her tortellini. She is survived by her parents, Arthur “Sonny” and Sharon Canepa, of Angels Camp; children, Cody and Kayla Dragomanovich, of Angels Camp; a sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda L. and Joe Menzes, of Angels Camp; daughter-in-law Tyra Swanson, of Angels Camp; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marshall and Sandy Dragomanovich, of San Andreas; grandson, Troy Dragomanovich, of Angels Camp; niece and nephew, Marissa and Mitchell Menzes, of Angels Camp; and numerous extended family members. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Foothill Community Church in Angels Camp. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to a favorite charity or church. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements. Jan Overstreet April 26, 1932. — Nov. 19, 2009 Jan Overstreet died Nov. 19 at her Murphys home with family by her side. She was 77. Born in Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Overstreet grew up in the Baltimore and Chicago areas, along with her siblings. She graduated with an associate of arts degree from Graceland College and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Illinois, where she met and later married William Bailey. They moved to San Jose and raised three children. They later divorced. While living in San Jose, she was a volunteer with the local school system, teaching chorus, creating and working the the GATE Program and volunteering wherever needed. While working in the school system, she met and married Jack Overstreet in 1977. In 1985, she and her husband moved to Calaveras County, initially living in Vallecito and later moving to Murphys. She was active in local branches of the American Association of University Women, the Reading is Fundamental nonprofit children’s literacy organization and a women’s writing group. She also continued volunteering in local schools and the community. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Michael Overstreet, of San Francisco. She is survived by her siblings, Valerie Briggs, of Redwood City, and Jim Briggs, of Portola Valley; children, Suzanne Marsh, of Long Beach; James Bailey, of Murphys, and Michael Bailey, of Oakland; stepchildren, Jim Overstreet, of Los Gatos, Jack Overstreet Jr., of San Jose, and Tracy Carpenter, of Murphys; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Zelphia ‘Louise’ Watson Feb. 27, 1935 — Nov. 21, 2009 Zelphia “Louise” Watson, of Valley Springs, died Nov. 21 at a Lodi care center. She was 74. A native of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Watson lived in Calaveras County from 1945 until 1958, when she moved to Washington state. She moved to Los Angeles in 1978, and back to Calaveras County in 1988. She was called “Aunt Wee” by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Watson; and a daughter, Charisse Watson. She is survived by a grandson, Wyatt Hunter, of La Pine, Ore. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at San Andreas Memorial Chapel, preceded by visitation at 9 a.m. Burial will be at Lodi Memorial Cemetery.
