‘MythBusters’ makes mysterious visit to Carson Hill |
The Emmy-nominated reality show “MythBusters” paid a mystery-shrouded visit to Carson Hill on Thursday.
Producers would not allow reporters on site of the shoot, Carson Hill Rock Products quarry, and requests for comment to the show’s publicist were not returned. Some members of the county’s SWAT team were called out to the site, said Sgt. Dave Seawell, Sheriff’s Department spokesman, but he didn’t know how many or if any other department employees had been sent. The Discovery Channel’s series has rented out space at the mine four or five times now, said Mark Sutton, who owns Carson Hill Rock Products with his brother. A history of the show’s visits to the county is a litany of explosions. In 2007, the crew blew up a Bay Area family’s car — their broken-down former car, that is, done by request for a “viewer’s choice” segment. A year earlier, they made extensive plans to test the story of a World War II airman who said he jumped out of his plane without a parachute and survived the 20,000-foot fall due to an explosion in a train station below him. With a squadron of emergency crews standing by, the crew used a life-sized train station replica, a suspended dummy and an explosion equal to a 1,000-pound bomb to disprove the myth. And create a big boom. And in 2005, they attempted to dislodge hardened cement from a mixer at the quarry. Key ingredient: dynamite. |
