Keith Patrick Caldwell
Aug. 29, 1990 — Oct. 26, 2009

    Keith Patrick Caldwell, of Columbia, died Oct. 26 at Sonora Regional Medical Center of complications from diabetes. He was 19.
    A native of Payson, Ariz., he lived there for 11 years, then moved to California. He lived in Loma Rica and Marysville in Yuba County and Allens-worth in Tulare County before moving to Columbia three years ago.
    He was a student at Sonora Adult School and worked for the California State Parks Department and with his father in maintenance, drywall finishing, building construction and grounds-keeping.
    His hobbies included playing the guitar and drums, fishing and riding and working on motorcycles.
    He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kathryn Caldwell, in 1992, and Bill Caldwell, in 2000, and an uncle, Dickie Caldwell, in 2009.
    He is survived by his parents, Patrick R. Caldwell, of Columbia, and Patty A. Behm-Caldwell, of Payson, Ariz.; a sister, Samantha Caldwell, of Show Low, Ariz.; a brother, Billy Caldwell, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
    The date of a memorial service will be announced later. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Roy H. Gibbs
May 24, 1961 — Oct. 26, 2009

    Former Calaveras County resident Roy H. Gibbs, of Modesto, died Oct. 26 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. He was 48.
    Mr. Gibbs lived in Modesto for 29 years. He had lived in Angels Camp and Douglas Flat for 18 years before that and attended Calaveras High School special education classes. He was a kitchen worker at Howard Training Center in Modesto.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Gibbs, and a sister, Anne Morris.
    He is survived by his mother, Donna Bailey, of Altaville; and a sister, Sandra Smith, address unknown.
    Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Altaville Protestant Cemetery next to his sister, Anne. Angels Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.

Juanita ‘Peanut’ Ebert
March 8, 1949 — Oct. 27, 2009

    Juanita “Peanut” Ebert, of Valley Springs, died Oct. 27 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton after a short illness. She was 60.
    She was born in Waco, Texas, and lived in Manteca before moving to Valley Springs in 2002.
    Her interests included camping, fishing, working in her yard, crafts and square dancing with the Calaveras Twirlers.
    She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Valley Springs and a volunteer “pink lady” at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas.
    She is survived by her husband, Ken Ebert, of Valley Springs; four children, Candace Carmichael, of Studio City, and Ricky Gomez, Lazette Ashby and Betty Ramos, all of Waco, Texas; and five grandchildren, all of Waco, Texas.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community United Methodist Church, 135 Laurel St., Valley Springs, CA 95252.
    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Charles Richard Cool
Sept. 28, 1936 — Oct. 27, 2009

    Charles Richard Cool, of Valley Springs, died Oct. 27 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas. He was 73.
    A native of Cedarville, Ohio, he lived in Calaveras County for 20 years. He was a retired X-ray technician.
    He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janet Cool, of Valley Springs.
    Donations in his name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301, attention Gift Processing, or the American Heart Association, 1212 W. Robinhood Drive, Suite D, Stockton, CA 95207.
    A celebration of life will be held at a later date. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Donna Helene Van Wey
Jan. 18, 1949 — Oct. 24, 2009

    Donna Helene Van Wey, of Tuolumne, died Oct. 24 at a Stockton care home. She was 60.
    She grew up in Redwood City and graduated from Sequoia High School in 1969. As a young adult, she liked to bowl and played on a handicapped team. She also enjoyed crafts, embroidery, bead-work, puzzles and most of all, singing, her family said.
    Her favorite outing was to her parent’s house in Tuolumne.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Edith Van Wey.
    She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Bill Betzler, of Tuolumne; and nieces and nephews, Donald and Amanda Betzler, and their son, Coleton, of Tuolumne; Carolyn and Paul Cranch and their sons, Warner and Marshall, of Australia; Robert and Bethany Betzler, of Tuolumne, Stephen and Faith Betzler, of Jupiter, Tim Betzler, of Tuolumne; Julie and Josh Price, of Sonora, Amy Betzler, of Tuolumne, and Sara Betzler, of Tuolumne.
    Donations in her memory made by made to Special Olympics, 3480 Buskirk Ave., Suite 340, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Deegan Funeral Chapel, 1441 San Joaquin St., Escalon, with burial following at Burwood Cemetery.

Lesta Louise Reece
Sept. 9, 1942 — Oct. 15, 2009

    Lesta Louise Reece, of Copperopolis, died Oct. 15 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas. She was 67.
    Mrs. Reese, a longtime resident of San Lorenzo, retired to Copperopolis in 2002.
    She graduated from Tennyson High School in 1960.
    Her main interests were spending time with family and traveling the country with her husband, Mel Reece, and the Big Valley Sam’s RV Club.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Ken Erickson.
    In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Ilene Erickson, of San Diego; and children, David Stevens, of San Lorenzo, Robin Cordova and her husband, Jerry, of San Leandro, Chris Stevens and his wife, Jennifer, of San Leandro, and Kathy Periera, of Tracy; a stepson, Paul Reece and his wife, Julie, of Elk Grove;  grandchildren, Heather Jones and her husband, Lucas, of Brentwood, Nick Cordova, of San Leandro, Holly Stevens, of San Lorenzo, Kristen Stevens, of San Leandro, Corey and Tasia Periera, of Tracy, and Evan and Ryan Reece, of Elk Grove; and siblings, Bobby Erickson, of Denver, Colo., Helen Wilson, of Buckeye, Ariz., and Tony Erickson and his wife, Patty, of San Diego.
    A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Copper Cove, Lake Tulloch, 920 Black Creek Drive, Copperopolis.

Margaret Jane Stewart
Jan. 25, 1924 — Oct. 19, 2009

    Margaret Jane Stewart, of Douglas Flat, died Oct. 19 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas. She was 85.
    She was a California native and a longtime resident of Douglas Flat.
    Mrs. Stewart is survived by a son, John Stewart, of Cloverdale.
    A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Arnold, 4339 Meadow View Road, in Hanford Hill Acres.
    Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
