Not guilty plea made in fatal hit and run

The suspect in a fatal hit-and-run last week on Tuolumne Road pleaded not guilty Monday in the Tuolumne County Superior Court.

Nicholas Brian McMahon, 30, of Blue Bell Avenue East in Sonora, pleaded not guilty by video arraignment from the Tuolumne County Jail to charges of felony driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury or death, felony driving with a 0.08 percent blood alcohol level causing injury or death, and felony leaving the scene of a fatal accident. The charges are listed on the complaint filed by the District Attorney’s Office.

McMahon remains in custody at the jail on $50,000 bail.

The victim, Stacy Kay Stone, 45, of Sonora, was walking east on Tuolumne Road, east of Terrace Drive, about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 19 when she was hit by the right side of a vehicle traveling west, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Stone later died at Sonora Regional Medical Center.

According to Tuolumne County Sheriff’s records, at 4:22 p.m. Oct. 21 McMahon went into the Sheriff’s Office lobby reporting he was involved in the accident.

He was arrested following questioning, CHP said.

McMahon will be represented by attorney Don Martell. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Nov. 6 in Department 3 of the Tuolumne County Superior Court.
