Calaveras County Delta College campus decision postponed |
If a San Joaquin Delta College satellite campus is to come to Calaveras County, it will be later than sooner, Supervisor Steve Wilensky announced Tuesday.
Near the end of the Board of Supervisors meeting, Wilensky explained he had been in contact with officials from the college late Monday and received word that any branch campus construction will be delayed as the college faces a significant loss of state funding in the wake of Sacramento’s budget woes. All projects are on hold for as long as six months, Wilensky said. A site in Paloma consisting of six donated acres of land and the pledged donation of surplus portable classrooms from Calaveras Unified School District would keep costs low for a Calaveras campus, proponents say. The site is in the running with proposals in the Lodi and Galt areas.
“The project, should it be opening in Calaveras County, would not
be in 2010, but the following year” as a result of the delay, Wilensky
said, noting whether doors would open in spring or fall of 2011 remains
up in the air. |
