Pools to open for summer |
Calaveras County pools are gearing up to open for the summer. The pool in Angels Camp will open June 9, while the one in Murphys will open June 6.
The Angels Camp pool is run through the Angels Camp Veterans Memorial District. Since it is funded with federal dollars, it is not facing the same shortfalls the Tuolumne County Recreation Department is. Tuolumne County pools will open this year, but could be closed in the summer of 2010 due to county budget shortfalls. “It appears like we will be able to operate as usual,” said Diane Gray, secretary for the Angels Camp Veterans Memorial District Board. The Angels pool, built in 1965, is aging and may close next summer after a new pool at Bret Hart High School is complete, she said. “While it is a great community pool, I think it is time to retire it,” Gray said. This summer, however, Angels Camp pool hours will be noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Murphys pool will be open 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Murphys pool also is free of budget concerns this year as well, said Mark Gill, who runs the pool with his wife, Michelle. The pool is funded through the Ebbetts Pass Veterans Memorial District. The Murphys Rotary Club recently helped redo the pool and bathrooms, Gill said. “We’re state of the art right now,” he said. |
