Man injured trying to avoid deer in road

A 59-year-old man suffered moderate injuries in a motorcycle crash Sunday near Spicer Reservoir.

Larry Gassen, 59, of Blue Jay, San Bernardino County, was riding his 2004 BMW motorcycle westbound, east of Spicer, on Highway 4 when a deer crossed in front of him, the California Highway Patrol reported.

He attempted to avoid the deer and lost control, spilling his motorcycle in the middle of the road.

Gassen, who was ejected from the bike, suffered a broken arm and possible broken hand, CHP said.

He was taken to Sutter Roseville Hospital. The accident was reported at 8:25 a.m.
