Roundup band review tonight at Sonora High |
The annual Band Review will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sonora High School on Dunlavy Field.
Various school bands will perform for free in advance of the Mother Lode Roundup Parade. The parade preview allows students to watch each other perform, something that cannot be done in the actual parade, said coordinator Yvonne Denton, Sonora High music teacher. The band review has been held for several years, preceding the Roundup Parade and rodeo weekend. "It’s nice for them to see what each other is doing,” Denton said. “It’s good for high schools too, as a recruitment tool.” The performances won’t be judged. Mother Lode Adventist Junior Academy, Curtis Creek School, Columbia Elementary, Jamestown School, Soulsbyville School, Sonora Elementary, Summerville High and Sonora High will be among the performers. The Band Review is part of the walk-up to the annual Mother Lode Roundup weekend, which includes the parade, two days of rodeo and a Mother’s Day breakfast. The parade steps off Saturday at 10 a.m. and follows Washington Street through downtown Sonora. The rodeo begins at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. |
