Sheep Ranch house burns, four displaced

A Sheep Ranch home was destroyed by fire early Wednesday, displacing a family of four.

Alisha Stearns, who lived in the home with her husband, Jim, and two children, said no one was hurt in the blaze that left their home “completely burned to the ground.”

Stearns said she did not know what caused the fire in the middle of the night but that her family is now staying in a hotel and receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Central Calaveras Fire and Rescue Protection District and other local agencies responded to the 1:50 a.m. call. No estimate of damages or cause for the fire were released Wednesday.

Jim Stearns formerly served as a caterer for the Grateful Dead and Bill Graham Presents concerts. In 2005, he earned a Humanitarian Service Award from the Houston Police Department for his efforts in feeding tens of thousands of refugees from the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina.
